ABOUT

PRINCESSBridals

Thank you for stopping by! Our story all started when Florence's daughter, Lorraine, was engaged to marry. With long searches all over Long Island and New York City, they both found the selection for wedding dresses was limited for Lorraine's big day. There wasn't the kind of wedding dress selection there is today. This was the late 60s. Florence devised a brilliant plan and Princess Bridals was born. We have a fun, award-winning, short film that tells the wonderful story. You can watch it below.

Today, with more than 50 years in the bridal business, three generations, we've learned some things and served generations of brides. We hope we have the opportunity to learn your story, serve your bridal needs and help you find your dream dress.

OUR Story

Over Half A Century Of Bridal History

1930

It all began in 1930 in Greenpointe, Brooklyn, New York. Florence Remy was born to two Italian immigrants working hard for the American dream.
Florence's parents move the family to Hicksville, NY where she grows up and graduates from high school.
Florence marries and they have a daughter, Lorraine. When Lorraine grows up and announces her engagement, Florence and Lorraine search for the perfect wedding dress. It is in vein. They become frustrated at the cost and lack of selection of wedding dresses in the late 1960s.

1970

In an effort to provide the perfect wedding dress for her daughter, and to deliver more options and greater selection to other brides, Florence opens her own bridal shop in the front room of their home in Hicksville. She begins designing and making wedding dresses.

1974

Lorraine Prokop, Florence's daughter, joins the family business. She works side by side her Mother to design, create and sell wedding dresses to brides eager for something fresh and great customer service.

1993

Lorraine has a son, Charles Prokop. In high school he begins working behind the scenes at Princess Bridals to grow the business. With his interest in business, and the encouragement of his grandmother Florence, Charles attends Hofstra University graduating with a bachelors degree in business management in 2000. In 2010 he begins helping run the day to day affairs of Princess Bridals as the third generation family member.

2000

Princess Bridals moves to it's current location at 200 Fulton Street in Farmingdale, New York. This allows them to expand their showroom and offer more selection and service for brides.

2012

Lorrain Prokop, the second generation of the family owned Princess Bridals, who had worked side-by-side for decades with her Mother to serve generations of brides, passes away from a long illness. Her Mother, Florence Remy, turns over the operations to Charles Prokop to continue the legacy while she quietly directs him.

2021

Florence Remy, the founder of Princess Bridals, passes away. Charles Prokop, third generation in the family, takes over as President and continues the legacy left by his Grandmother and Mother, helping generations of brides find their dream wedding dress.
